First on Shuffle Song of the Day: “Pretty in Punk” by Fall Out Boy.

With their inextinguishable supply of 80’s movie references, Fall Out Boy’s “Pretty in Punk” exemplifies the Blink-182 pop-punk style of the band’s early days; a style that is still present in many seedling bands in the below-underground music scenes of today. The song targets smaller venues and describes the classic “girl at the rock show”. “Pretty in Punk” was once my all-time-favorite FOB song, and though it still stands in the top 25%, I find the chorus of “I’m not the way you think I am” at the end of the song to be a bit too repetitive for my tastes. I’ll stick with “Homesick at Spacecamp”. This song comes off of Fall Out Boy’s nine-song, 28-minute, 2005 EP Evening Out With Your Girlfriend, which was released so early in their professional career that permanent drummer Andrew John Hurley had yet to join the band, they were still using brokehalo7@aol.com as their primary email address, and their exclusively used cereal was Count Chocula. Let’s hope they progressed to something tastier.

p.s. I just write these First on Shuffle Song of the Day descriptions off of the top of my head, so I am sorry for any factual inconsistencies. :)
